Ginette Callaway - Artist Statement

I am French born, spend many years in Germany and ended up in the United States where I live and work in the great warm state of Georgia. I paint in oil and watercolor, but I also experiment with other media and my experience in design can be found in some of my art creations. I am mostly self-taught. My motivation to paint was not to make money. However I have certainly nothing against making money, au contraire! My first and foremost motivation is a strong desire to work with paint and have total creative freedom.

 Before I started to paint full time I worked as a graphics designer in the digital media,  knew how to mix colors in my painters software, I knew what to do to get all kinds of shades of green but I really wanted to do that with tubes of paint and paint with real brushes. I wanted to smell paint, touch paint and work up paint on canvas.  

After I got my feet wet in paint, I realized that I had found the creative field that most satisfied me. I did less and less design work and eventually decided to paint full time.It wasn’t long before my art became increasingly popular and I was able to earn a steady income, living my dream, painting my visions.

 I took drawing classes at a local college, but that is where my formal art education ends.

I wanted to develop my own style. I wanted to develop my own intuitive creative process and did not want to distract myself by learning how to paint like someone else. Over the years I studied through books and practice.

I own a large library of art education, history and instruction books but my best teacher was and is the brush, the pencil, the ink pen, the paper, the canvas and most of all my subject. There is nothing that compares to the actual act of painting.

 I paint landscapes, flowers, animals and many travel destinations and last but not least personal friends and recording artists from the local music scene. I paint the scenes and things that matter in my life now and from times back in my twenties when I lived and traveled in Europe. Today, I have more then 400 individual collectors all over the world.
