My roses arrived today and I spend most of the day planting them. I had to dig two more deep holes... in Georgia red clay soil... definitely not for the faint hearted. I got it done ... finally they are planted. I can't wait to see them grow and then I paint them as well. When they arrived (they are own root roses) I immediately put them in to water.
They are lined up along the trellises and two of them are in front of the Chalet ie cat house. I'll post picture of the roses as they grow. In this photo they haven't been planted yet. It took all day, the digging and soil amending was the hardest part. Now I am beyond tired and will post more pix in the next few days.

The most difficult part about Roses to me is deciding which one to buy.
Naturally where they will be placed is the first factor. But at the end even after narrowing it down there are so many varieties that as far as I am concerned I could have dozen and dozen of different roses in my garden. I LOVE and yes capital LOVE roses. I inherited that LOVE from my grandfather who was a master when it came to Roses. Much of what I know I learned early on from him. When I work in the garden I feel very close to him and feel he is looking
down from heaven helping me along. Maybe that is why I can actually lift huge
potting soil bags *SMILE* I know he is proud of me for carrying on his tradition and Love for Roses.

My wrist is finally getting better. I already planted Tomatoes and Peppers over about a week ago. They are taking off nicely. Also some Bee Balm. My seeds are planted in my home made green houses. Hopefully I will plant them soon. I'm expecting my raised beds to arrive next week. Instead of building them, I decided to get them store bought. As soon as they are up and filled I hope my seedlings are ready to go in to the ground. I also planted white flowers and a few blue ones in my white garden bed. White Geraniums, White Phlox, Woodland Phlox, Dusty Miller, Bugleweed as an edging, Silver Sage (Salvia Argentea) Shasta Daisies or Crazy Daisy (Leucanthemum x superbum), Brachyscome Augustofilia Mauve Delight. My new roses are to arrive Friday. They are: Fragrant
Plum, Alchymist,
Clair
Matin, I will post some pictures when I get the time. In the meantime don't forget to check out my EBAY store with beautiful painting. Ginette ORIGINAL OIL Landscape Summer Meadow FLOWERS Ginette Original OIL Painting LANDSCAPE Tree & Poppies |

I can't believe it's been a week since my last entry but that is how time flies when you're having fun. I've been planting tomatoes, peppers and herbs, and been doing general spring garden clean up to get ready to plant some new Roses and vegetables. The only bad thing right now is that I seem to have strained my right wrist, or may have carpal tunnel. I hope not!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not ambidextrous but I am trying to train myself to use my left hand some more. My worst nightmare is not to be able to paint. Right now the pain in my wrist is bearable and I have rubbed it with lots of Flexall and wrapped it with an elastic bandage support. It hurts mostly when I twist my wrist and it seems to have a pop inside the wrist. Kinda weird never had such a think before happen. I am really a bit concerned but I try to think positive, and hope it's just strained from gardening. Please say some prayers for my poor wrist.

A Watercolor & Ink that I painted in 2002 is up for auction on EBAY.
It's a scene from France the Charente region somewhere around la Rochelle. It's been a long time since I last visited there. Me and my Aunt & Uncle who at the time lived in Barbezieux traveled along the Atlantic coast. Later I traveled with my dad. I loved the region, the oyster banks, the islands, the marshes, the vineyards in Cognac (where the real stuff Cognac is made from) Great country. Which is why I love the Georgia coast so much, where I live now, it reminds me a lot of the region of Charente in France. We traveled all the way down to the Pyrenees, where another aunt lives, with the same name then I "Ginette" and a huge extended family. Here is the little painting and click on the image to go to auction. |
