May 25th, 2007 I started the Memorial Day Grilling early I fixed a pork roast today, that I stuffed with onions and bacon pepper and salt. Grilled on indirect heat for about 3 hours. Next to it I have some red potatoes and onions with olive oil, pepper and salt and I will add some rosemary at the end of cooking. In the last four weeks I have rarely used my kitchen for cooking. I am able to cook most everything on the grill. Since it started to get very warm in Georgia, it will safe me some air conditioning by not heating up the oven in particular.
Some Yellow Squash I planted a week ago from seedlings.
One of my Tomato Plants. A cherry tomato planted in the beginning of April
My grape tomatoes are already growing in abundance.
Some Sugar Snaps. They are looking great so far. I still have most of my small plants covered with tulle.

It's been a week since I had the time to write anything in my blog. Sorry folks but business, gardening and trying to make some money has kept me from blogging. It's been six weeks since I planted my tomatoes and they have tripled in size. Today I planted cantaloupe seedlings in my raised bed. This is my first time for cantaloupe and I am afraid I probably planted too many. I will have to thin them out as they get bigger.
I started the seeds about 5 weeks ago. I use plastic containers like in the picture further below. It works pretty good. I've got some onions that still need to be transplanted, some sugar snaps and lettuce. My tomatoes plants are becoming monsters already . They have tomatoes growing already. I have some nice heirlooms and vine tomatoes, Grape and Cherries. I always plant basil with my tomatoes and my basil is doing great. Basil is such an easy herb to grow.
This year I have some red, green and yellow bell peppers too as well as my usual banana peppers. And a hot cherry pepper. I am dead tired and tomorrow will be another hard day. Not to forget finding a way to keep the squirrels of my bird feeders. My Cats help but they are not always watching. Those squirrels are relentless ! Night Night!

Info Links about Okefenokee Fires
Here is one of my first paintings Okefenkee Sunset available as a print on Sistino |
May 8th, 2007
I am just so upset about the fires that have been burning in the Okefenkee Swamp in South Georgia now for weeks. As many of you know, I paint the Oke a lot. To me it's a magical place, a true wilderness, scary and mysterious, enchanting and frightening at the same time. There are snakes and bears and alligators and birds of all kind, plants that eat meat, just bugs not people *SMILE*. And now I have just horrible visions of what is happening in the Oke and how many of the animals are in just dire straights. I so hope we will get some rain, lots of it and for as long as it takes to kill the fires. I'm praying very hard, for the people that live there, for the animals and for the beautiful nature. |

Today I saw a television show on gardening and someone in that show said
something that is so true and it really makes a great point about gardening.
"People that garden Gardening is about looking forward to the future!" "An 80+ year old grandmother digs through gardening catalogs to find bulbs to plant in fall that will bloom in spring. People that garden look to the future they don't get old!" |
