I finished a nice watercolor and ink today. "Poppies Provencale" Dimensions 12 x 17 inches and handmade deckled edge paper. I will list it in my ETSY store Tuesday 04/01 Just in time for Mothers day. I think this painting would make a great gift. I posted two videos where you can see this painting coming to life. In part one I share a bit of myself plus do most of the ink work on this. In part one you can see most of the watercolor work and see me sign the piece.

Needle felting the face took about a day. I still have to do a few details. He is a rude little monkey sticking his tongue out. I love him already.

Now I make his body

People often ask me why I do so many different things and why I don't stick with one art from, like painting for example.

It's really difficult to answer. It's just me.

I spend the first third of my life struggling and did not grow up with lots of support for what I felt inside I wanted to do. Maybe I missed out on so much that I just have to catch up. Maybe I am just driven by my creative energy. Maybe I am a multiple personality.

I do have lots of skills and if I say so myself whatever I set my mind on I can do and learn and figure out. I love doing!!! I love creating things from scratch. It 's just who I am. I am like a sponge and soak up everything around me.

I have tons of ideas and many of them I don't even realize for lack of time.

To some people it seems I am doing too many things, to me it's I'm still not doing all I want.

Whatever I do, create, originate, it's defiantly "ME" and it fulfills me every day.

I will never say "Never"!

I know of artists that paint landscape in the same palette for most of their artistic life's. To me that would be akin to eating the same dinner every night. Wearing the same outfit every day.

It's just unthinkable.

If you think of Louis Comfort Tiffany, you probably think stained glass, but did you know that the man was a creative genius. Lots of people don't know that he was a painter first.

Fritz is almost finished in this picture. I am still going to do the needle felted paws and some needle felting detail on the mouth. The tongue is needle felted and seamless.

Fritz is 18 inches tall and has beads in his bottom. He has a nice weight and will sit freely.
He also has a cute Mohair tail.

His eyes are just amazing. Full of character.
Fritz is a fence jumper for sure!

His neck is NOT jointed and his arms, legs and tail are not jointed. They are very securely sewn. The arms are sewn through the body. All limps  are attached with heavy pearl thread. His tail has a strong wire pointing it up and perky!

You cant' help but love Fritz. If you ask what breed he is, he would say "I'm a  loveable mutt!"

No, I haven't stopped painting my beautiful colorful paintings.

But I am realizing some other ideas, which is making these character. Each one is created from an original idea and a one time hand drawn pattern. Each is unique and 100% One OF A Kind. I do not use patterns other then what I hand draw myself. I sew by hand except for the body which I sew with my machine. All parts are reinforced with interfacing. The stuffing materials I use are all non toxic. I use German Glass Bear Eyes and other made to order, high quality glass eyes. I really think it's important to use quality materials. I use mostly Helmbold Mohair or Schulte which are the best in my opinion. I needle felt, and or embroidered the nose and moth depending on which result I am looking for. Needle felting is a great way to great character and unique details. I also sculpt some of the heads for more fantasy characters of mine.

My characters are mostly meant for adult collectors. They are fine for older children but they do have glass eyes, and sewn on elements that could be ripped off by younger children. Just like with any small pet you want to treat these character kindly!

Mohair is very expensive and the vintage fabrics
I use are rare limited editions and expensive as well.
I won't create any character that has the same expression or use the same body fabric twice. In the case of Fritz, I used a fairy tail - folk tails Japanese import cotton fabric.

I will try to create a few characters with fabrics that are not as rare and instead of using real mohair I will use synthetic mohair which is actually really nice.

I will state in all descriptions which materials I used of course and if you have any questions... please don't hesitate to ask. e-mail HERE

Ginette's First Bear "Bernadette"

January 2008

This is my current project I am working on.

A 27 inch tall artist bear. It will be a Mama Bear. As story is developing about her that I will post when the bear is finished.

Artist bear means that all parts are original including the pattern. I created my own pattern. A cloth body. Filled with poly fiber fill that is especially for dolls or bears. Different stuffing's are available. This one I used for this bear is soft and allows me to sew and sculpt on this bear.

As of right now the body has been gessoed and painted. I am waiting for nice mohair that I ordered from over seas. As soon as it arrives I continue working on this bear. All non dressed parts will be covered with mohair. I will sew it on to her body. This bear will be dressed for the most part. I have some vintage fabric that I am planning to use for this bear. It is very darling and I will post pictures as soon as available.

As I continue on this I will post new progress pictures.

e-mail me with questions or if you are interested in purchasing this bear after finished.

I am working on a template for just the right nose,
while I wait for the mohair to arrive.

I can't wait to get back to work more on Mama Bear.

I used a wooden armature and made arm armatures that are flexible. The base is wood and the body is affixed by the wood trunk that goes through the bear. I used epoxy to affix the bottom and the head to the body. The head is not movable but the arm are. The whole design is by me.

This will be a show bear not a toy for children. Mama Bear is meant as a collectors art bear.

Head arms and upper body will be covered in soft curly mohair and she will wear a long dress that is my pattern and will be sewn to her body.

I already have the perfect German Glass Eye for her.

stay tunes for more soon...
