Brasstown Bald, formerly Mount Enotah, Lookout tower on Brasstown Bald, Blue Ridge Mountains, northwestern Georgia. highest point in Georgia, U.S., reaching an elevation of 4,784 feet (1,458 metres). It lies in the northwest part of the state in the Blue Ridge Mountains, 9 miles (14 km) east of Blairsville and just south of the North Carolina border. Heavily wooded, the mountain is within Chattahoochee National Forest, and its bare summit is topped by a five-story lookout tower. The name Brasstown probably derives from a misinterpretation of the Cherokee Indian name Itse’yi, meaning “green place,” which was confused with the name Untsai’yi, meaning “brass.”

http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/77936/Brasstown-Bald

Scenic Drive to the highest point in Georgia
Stops at different look outs and Appalachian Trail Crossovers. Filmed may 21 & 22 2011.
Brasstown Bald is the highest point in the state of Georgia, USA, with a summit elevation of 4,784 feet (1,458 m) above mean sea level. It is also the highest point in the Deep South (as distinguished from the Upper South).

The mountain is known to the native Cherokee people as Enotah. It is named for the former Cherokee village of Brasstown, Georgia, located along the upper Brasstown Creek. Across the North Carolina state line, immediately to its north, is Brasstown, North Carolina, in the Brasstown township of Clay County, North Carolina.

Brasstown Bald is partly in Towns and partly in Union counties, the peak being divided by the county line. The mountain is part of the Blue Ridge Mountains, (part of the Appalachian Mountains), and within the borders of the Blue Ridge Ranger District of the Chattahoochee National Forest. The mountain is mostly made up of soapstone and dunite.
Brasstown Bald was settled by the Cherokee people. White settlers derived the word Brasstown from a translation error of a Cherokee word. Sounding very similar to another Cherokee word, settlers confused the word “Itse’yĭ” (New Green Place or Place of Fresh Green) with “Ûňtsaiyĭ” (Brass). Itse’yĭ, New Green Place, is a Cherokee locative name given to several distinct areas in the Cherokee world, including an area to the North of Brasstown Bald in North Georgia.
Since I am away and can’t ship I decided to just put it on vacation mode but it will be open as son as I return.

Yesterday I went to Sullivan Island. I liked the beach even better then the one on Isle of Palms. They are both nice places to visit. Afterward I went to Shem Creek n Mt. Pleasant. Then I went on to the Weekly Market there. I met “Rina” who has a stand where she sells her home made Jams & Salsa. I just had some of her Peach & Orange Marmalade and it is divine. I bought some of her Salsa that I tasted, it’s really out f this world. I can’t wait to use it in one of my Vegan recipes. Rina is originally from Italy and has lived in South Carolina for over 30 years.

I have to say the people of Charleston and mt. Pleasant are about the friendliest people I have met in a long time. Very accommodating. Living in the Atlanta area I am used to bad attitudes and it’s easy to forget that there are actually nice people out there. I feel I fit right in here. I do wish there were more Vegan restaurants but the restaurants are very accommodating in adjusting dishes to fit my needs. Across the street is a whole food market. The town of Mt. Pleasant across from Charleston via the Arthur Ravenell Bridge is indeed very pleasant. I can’t remember when I last felt so save walking around at any time of the day. It’s definitely much different then my neighborhood, where I live. Makes you wonder why are things so different there from here.
