Bonaventure is indeed a place like no place else. It is a cemetery like no other.

I felt like holding my breath as I walked through this eerie and Grand Cemetery.

There was nobody else around. I don’t know why but it was empty at the time.

Nevertheless I did not feel alone. It was as if I was followed by many. After seeing countless giant Angel Statues and Columns, Monuments while being caressed by warm summer breeze through the Spanish Moss, or was it the hair of angels that caressed me, I came upon little Gracie Watson’s Grave.

Her story is so sad and standing there I could not tear myself away. Looking and thinking and waiting for Gracie to get up of the bench she sat on, to walk up to me and laugh or giggle. I certainly heard giggles and laughs.

Some visitors report hearing a child crying and some say they see tears roll from her eyes.

My visit and Gracie left a very deep impression. Gracie is alive and her friends are with her. Entertaining and causing splendid mischief still today for all those that come to see her.

That is why I call this painting “Gracie and her Friends”

It is a large 24 x 48 inches oil painting on Linen.

Gracie died at the age of six in 1889 of Pneumonia which she contracted after being hospitalized for a broken leg she suffered after being run over by a horse drawn carriage as she ran in to the street to retrieve what was said a ball or toy. Her parents were devastated as she was their only child and apple of their eye. Her father managed one of the best Hotels in Savannah the Pulaski House where little Gracie was a star that stole everyone heart and everyone knew and adored her.

Thru hiking

Thru hiking is a term used in referring to hikers who complete long distance trails from end-to-end in a single trip. The Pacific Crest Trail, Appalachian Trail, and Continental Divide Trail are the three long distance trails in the U.S. Successfully thru-hiking all of these three trails is known as the “Triple Crown of hiking”.[8] Thru-hiking is a long commitment, usually taking between four and six months, that requires thorough preparation and dedication. Although the actual number is difficult to calculate, it is estimated that around 180 out of approximately 300 people who attempt a thru-hike complete the entire trail each year.[9]

The first thing prospective thru hikers have to do when thinking about attempting a thru hike is planning their trip. The Pacific Crest Trail Association estimates that it takes most hikers between 6 and 8 months to plan their trip.[9] The first decision during the trip planning process is to decide the route to take. Most hikers travel from the Southern Terminus at the Mexico Border north to Manning Park, British Columbia, but some hikers travel southbound. In a normal weather year, northbound hikes are most practical. If snowpack in the Sierra Nevada is high in early June and low in the Northern Cascades, some hikers may choose to ‘flip-flop.’ Flip-flopping can take many forms but is often the term used to describe beginning at one end (on the PCT, usually the southern end) of the trail and then, at some point, like reaching the Sierra, going to the end of the trail (Manning Park in B.C.) and hiking southbound to finish the trail.
